Setting up a daily schedule

Oct 21, 2021

We all need extra time in our lives, how cliché! What would you do if you had the extra time each day? It usually comes as a fleeting thought : “If I have 30 minutes later, I’ll get this done”, but as we all know, that 30 minutes never miraculously appears and we are left saying the same thing the next day and the next, except our list of things to do with that extra time, grows longer and longer and more unrealistic.

Does it seem like your day is running your life, instead of the other way around? You are running as fast as you can to keep up with your responsibilities and demands, always feeling like you are still falling short of your own expectations. Racing through the day and flopping into bed at night, only to wake up the next morning and start it all again.

Now some adrenaline junkies out there love the thrill and the challenge, but for most of us trying to manage our various roles and responsibilities, it’s hard.

How many of these roles do you participate in at least once a week in daily life?

  • Worker/employee
  • Boss
  • Parent
  • Partner or spouse
  • Friend
  • Support system to someone
  • Community member
  • Teacher
  • Volunteer
  • Home maintainer
  • Gardener
  • Personal assistant to the family
  • Chauffer to younger kids
  • Cook or meal planner
  • Shopper
  • Bill payer
  • Finance manager
  • Laundromat
  • Student
  • Caregiver
  • Religious participant
  • Hobbyist

It’s hard to believe that we wear so many hats on a daily basis and in order to manage everything we are expected to change roles automatically throughout the day without any hiccups.

The first step to creating some calm in the chaos is discovering which of these roles is your priority and creating a daily schedule that allows you to fulfill your roles and responsibilities in a way that is managed for ultimate productivity.
